June 21, 2017 – Managing Invasive Plant Species – Every year in Idaho, noxious weeds cause agricultural losses, diminish critical habitat, increase wildfire events, reduce water and air quality, threaten public health due to pest control issues, and limit recreational opportunities. There are roughly about 300 undesirable plants in all states, with about 64 of those in Idaho, and they posses an alarming ability to spread. Why landowners, policy makers, outdoor recreationists and conservation groups are concerned about invasive plant species and what is being done about them. In this program, rebroadcast from 2012, I talk with weed experts Jeffrey Pettingill of Bonneville County and Bryce Fowler of Freemont County.

The resources mentioned in the program include idahoweedawareness.org and Ada County Weed and Pest. This is an encore episode of Elemental Idaho. You can find the original broadcast here.

June 28, 2017 – A River Unites Them (encore) – The Boise River Enhancement Network is a group dedicated to promoting the ecological enhancement of the Boise River and Boise River watershed. On this episode, I talked with Kathy Peter of the Idaho Section of the American Water Resources Association, James Eller with the Caldwell Field Office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service of the USDA, and Andy Brunelle of Trout Unlimited about their efforts to inspire a better understanding and appreciation for the river and stewardship efforts.
