The US Geological Survey (USGS) and Idaho Power are conducting a five year study on mercury concentrations in fish in the Hells Canyon Complex, including Brownlee Reservoir, where there are current fish consumption advisories. Dr. David Krabbenhoft, a worldwide expert on mercury cycling and behavior in the atmosphere and aquatic environments and mercury contamination of aquatic systems, is leading the USGS team. How does mercury behave in the Complex? How might upstream action or changes in reservoir management minimize mercury effects? Dr. Krabbenhoft originally presented on this topic with the Idaho Environmental Forum and we were pleased he could join us for an interview on this episode.
This is an encore presentation of an earlier Elemental Idaho, which you can listen to here.
