Late last year, officials with the BLM’s National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) opposed a route for the Gateway West transmission project through the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area in favor one some feel will adversely affect Greater sage-grouse populations in Owyhee County. Recently, BLM began the scoping process for these segments in southwestern Idaho and are seeking public comment.
In this episode, rebroadcast from last year, conservationist and raptor expert Karen Steenhof will talk about the potential impacts of this project on the Birds of Prey area, and Idaho Power officials Doug Dockter and Brett Dumas will expand on the alternatives available. This is the first of a two-part series, the second half of which will include an interview with BLM representatives on the finalized proposal.
