Earlier this year, Officials with the BLM’s National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) opposed an alternative route for the Gateway West transmission project through the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area in favor one some felt would adversely affect Greater sage-grouse populations in Owyhee County. In November, the BLM announced its decision for the project to proceed with almost all of the route across federal public land and avoiding the Birds of Prey area. Its route through Owyhee County and the city of Kuna is still in question. In this episode rebroadcast from February, conservationist and raptor expert Karen Steenhof talks about the potential impacts of this project could have had on the Birds of Prey area, and Idaho Power officials Doug Dockter and Brett Dumas expand on the alternatives available.
