7/15/13 – The restoration of Eagle Island

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has proposed a series of restoration measures around and upstream of Eagle Island to reduce flooding. The plan, released in June, would improve 41.6 acres of habitat, including controlling weeds, creating cottonwood tree groves and improving the Boise River side channels. The public has until July 23 to comment on the draft plan. On this episode of Elemental Idaho, I talked with Mark Mendenhall of the US Army Corps of Engineers about the project, the public input and the possibilities for Eagle Island.
