5/7 – Understanding BSE

As USDA and other officials continue their investigation of the BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) case discovered in California last month, I talked with Dr. Bill Barton, Idaho State Veterinarian, about what BSE is, why it is a concern and some of the steps put in place to maintain a healthy beef supply.  Laurie Lickley, a rancher from Jerome, joined us.  Laurie is past president of the Idaho Beef Council, and has been actively involved with Idaho Cattle Association, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and has served on their Issues Management committee which deals directly with issues such as BSE.
